Casualties and key battles
Throughout WW1, the machine
gun was used in nearly every battle throughout the duration of the war. This was
mainly due to it being a highly effective weapon and having the capability to
cut down hundreds of enemy soldiers in only a matter of minutes. No matter how
small or large the battle may have been, the machine gun made an appearance at
nearly every battlefield, with some being the most crucial and vital battles
which affected the outcome of WW1. The major battles theat the machine gun was
used in are:
-The Battle of the Somme-
the first known usage of the machine gun on the Western Front, where nearly
60,000 British troops died on that first day
alone.
